The "Descendants of William Causey, 1744-1828, of Mississippi" site has removed
from the Internet. This includes the eBook on the extensive genealogy of William
Causey's descendants found in the "Killian Family History - MS & LA,
1732-Present". It has always been my practice to keep the family histories and
genealogies accurate and reasonably up to date. But the files have become very large and I
no longer have the time and energy to devote to editing the histories, and to keep them
updated on-line.
Add to this fact that the policy of FamilyTreeMaker, Rootsweb, and
Genealogy.com (all now
owned by
Ancestry.com) requires authors to relinquish all copyright privileges and permit
Ancestry.com to offer the history as a commercial product. While facts and records from
public filings are not subject to copyright, the analyses, photographs, stories, and
original texts are copyrightable in all other venues except those owned by
Ancestry.com.
Ancestry.com's policy means that all original passages of text, original maps, and
family photographs can be copied and commercially distributed by
Ancestry.com.
Because
Ancestry.com refuses to help protect the copyrights of authors who research and
publish extensive family histories, others who copy those works and present them as their
own are not subject to the rules of copyright. And,
Ancestry.com then compiles those
original reports and sells them to the general public as commercial products.
This policy was unilaterally established by
Ancestry.com and anyone using their services
must agree to the policy or not be permitted to use Ancestry.com's products or
services. I object to this policy and choose to not grant
Ancestry.com the right to take
my proprietary work and profit from it.

Ed Killian
