I have a few Anniston City, Calhoun County, AL & Etowah Alabama Causey's that I
just connected to. My Aunts & Uncles told me that my Great Grandmother was Susan
"Suzie" CAUSEY McKeehan WAY back when I started this research in 1995 & that
she was married to Noah D. McKeehan. Susan is buried in Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston AL
in a Paupers grave in the back section of the graveyard. She is in an unmarked grave in an
area that is not safe to explore (I was told), but her name is recorded in a handwritten
book for that time period for that graveyard. Noah McKeehan died in 1898 & we
don't know where or where he is buried. I could never find Susan anywhere EXCEPT the
1900 Census AND her Alabama Death Records & Handwritten entry for her Burial records
for August 9, 1913 & that was No Easy Chore, believe me. I did get copies of pages of
my grandfather's Bible showing her husband's death, but the page was torn where
she was recorded - the Bible is more than 100 years old, so the page!
s are VERY worn.
Now,what happened is that in 2011 I found that in the 1900 Census, Susan is Widowed, her
mother is living with her as well as her 3 living children & her brother-in-law. Her
Mother is listed as Martha CROSBY. (common mistakes in spelling back then because of
different accents...) so I assumed my grandfather was wrong & have been looking for
Crosby's for a couple of years & had basically given it up as a permanent brick
wall.
NOW, Just the other day I was researching her Husband's brothers whom i recently found
in order to get more info on Noah & Susan & I found out that Noah's BROTHER,
Robert M. McKeehan Married Gelotta "Lottie" CAUSEY. Robert was B: 11 Nov 1865
& D: June 2, 1921. Gelotta Causey McKeehan was B: MAYBE about 1870 & D: 30 Sept
1931 - They Both Died in Anniston, AL where they had moved To When they moved From
Keysburg, Etowah, AL between 1910 & 1920. Gelotta's parents are listed in her
marriage record to Robert M. McKeehan & they were Dave Causey & Erma Franklin
Causey. Ok, so now I am thinking that since Susan lived in Anniston also & since I
know that she Positively DID have Family Type contact with 2 out of the 3 McKeehan
brother's that moved to Anniston -apparently together - That her name Probably IS
Causey & the 1900 Census Enumerator Probably Misspelled her Mother's Name as
Crosby. BUT, Susan's Mother Would have been Older than Gelotta's parents. Martha
Causey, Susan Causey's!
Mother, was Born about 1806 AND the 1900 Census said she gave birth to 2 children but
only 1 child survived. Gelotta Causey's Mother Erma Franklin Causey, although I
haven't found her on any census records, gave birth possibly as late as 1870, so is
likely younger than Martha.
So, i am looking for:
1) - Martha Causey found only in the 1900 Census, B: Abt 1806 D: After 1900 Probably in
Anniston, Calhoun Co, AL. Married to Unknown Causey had 2 children, but only 1 living by
the 1900 Census.
2) - Martha's Daughter: Susan "Suzie" Causey B: About Aug 1863 in Talladega,
AL D: 9 Aug, 1913 in Anniston, AL & married my great Grandfather Noah David McKeehan
before 1886 when their oldest child who survived was born. Susan's birth & death
places are listed on her Death Certificate, she seems not to have existed before 1900 in
census records as yet... They had 3 surviving children: David Albany McKeehan, George
Britton McKeehan & John Eason McKeehan who is my grandfather (I have TONS of info on
ALL of these brothers...)
3) - Dave Causey who married Erma Franklin Causey. They had at LEAST 1 child who survived,
Gelotta Causey & was born About 1870 in Alabama (according to Her 1910, 1920 &
1930 census records).
4) - Erma Franklin Causey (listed above as Dave Causey's wife & Gelotta
Causey's Mother.
5) - Gelotta Causey McKeehan B: About 1870 in Alabama & D: Sept 20, 1931 in Anniston,
Calhoun Co, AL. married Robert M McKeehan (possibly as early as 1883, but not sure of the
record yet...) but they had first child abt 1892 but her second child in 1899 OR probably
late 1900's since he is not listed with what appears to be her family in the 1900
census which states that she had given birth 4 times but had 1 surviving child... She gave
birth to 8 children, but only 4 of them survived as of the 1910 Census. Her's &
Robert's Surviving children were: Rhoda McKeehan B: Abt 1892; General George McKeehan
B: about 1900; Henry J McKeehan B: abt 1905 & Maggie McKeehan B: about 1908. I DID
have 2 sons, General & George, but yesterday I found where General George McKeehan
Paid a Cash Bond for his Uncle Jim McKeehan to get out of jail in 1943 for Public Drunk, I
think it was the year (and evidently paid some past fines for him too, lol, he was a good
man, General George McKeehan was, lol!
!... Anyway, that showed me why I had listed 5 children when Census Records show clearly
that she only had 4 surviving children, General & George were the same person -
General George Mckeehan.
So I hope this post is not too confusing. I hope that maybe the 2 sets of Causey's
that I am looking for that are most likely kin to each other in some way are in your
records. This is One HARD Line to Trace.... ANY Info &/or consideration to my post
will be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tina Poole (Stella Poole)
