This will be posted to the ATKINSON Forum also. Years ago, while browsing in an antique
store in Loganville, Georgia, I happened upon the following D.A.R. certificate that was
pushed almost out of sight among other pictures/certificates. It is in great shape and
would be a treasure for someone that is descended from THOMAS ATKINSON, a Revolutionary
War soldier. Here's what the certificate says:
The National Society of the
Daughters of the American Revolution
1776 (with a print portrait of a colonial lady) 1890
This Certifies that
EMMA PHILLIPS CAUSEY
Is a regularly approved member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution in connection with the AMA KANASTA Chapter; having been admitted by the
National Board of Management by virtue of her descent from THOMAS ATKINSON who with
unfailing loyalty rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence as a SOLDIER
during the Revolutionary War.
Given under our hands and the seal of the National Society
This 1st day of May 1928
National No. 240942
Admitted April 14, 1928
(Signed)
Grace H. Brosseau President General
Sadie F. Earle Recording Secretary General
Elizabeth A. Helmick (or Hilmick?) Registrar General
I've typed this as it is shown on the certificate. This is a treasure, for it proves
the descent for any ATKINSON/CAUSEY relatives from an American patriot.
It can be yours for what I purchased it for, plus mailing charges.
Thanks!
