Sorry it took so long to get back to you. My maiden name was Maxham. I guess you talked
to my dad. He died in 2004 and Mama in 2001. My greatgrandfather bought the place in
1880 or 90--90 I think from a CE Joiner --I will need to go to Austell and look at the
deed and see. The house is on the national and cobb county registers because it is a
typical farmhouse of the time and it was also a union headquarters. Daddy said they used
to fine civil war bayonets etc under the house and in the fields. According to the story
Israel Causey was an overseer of a gold mine in Villa Rica. He had a few slaves--the
foundations of the houses are still in the woods. When the Yankees came, he went to villa
rica and left his wife and kids at the house. They stayed upstairs--there are inside
stairs that go up--it is finished now; but then it was one big room the stairs coming up
in the middle. Supposedly one of the soldiers made a pass at one of her girls and she
killed him there on!
the stairs--hit him with a piece of wood or shot him--We have pictures of both israel
and his wife--they don't look like a fun couple. Anything else--I will be glad to
help if I can. dannette
