COSBY Frank Spencer Cosby of Richmond, Va., died Monday, February 15,
1999. He was 83
years of age. He is survived by his wife of 54
years, Doris Oglesby Cosby; two sons, Frank
Spencer Cosby Jr. and his wife, Sue E. Cosby of
Greenville, N.C., and William Sterrett Cosby
and his wife, Brenda R. Cosby of Richmond; three
grandchildren, Katherine Spencer Cosby,
William Sterrett Cosby Jr. and Lisa M. Meeks. Mr.
Cosby was born and raised in Richmond
where he graduated from John Marshall High School
in 1935 and the University of Richmond in
1939 where he was a member of ODK Honor Fraternity
and Pi Kappa Alpha. He served in the
1st Division of the U.S. Army during World War II
serving in combat in N. Africa, the invasion
of Sicily, the D- Day invasion of France and the
Battle of the Bulge. Decorations included a
Silver Star and Bronze Stars. He was a prominent
insurance executive in Richmond and served
as a Vice President of Marsh & McLennan at his
retirement. Mr. Cosby was a member of the
Richmond Kiwanis Club and the Com monwealth Club.
He served in a number of alumni
leadership capacities at the University of
Richmond, most recently serving as President of the
Boatwright Society. One of the early members of
River Road Church, Bap tist, he was a devoted
servant of the church assuming a number of
leadership roles. His life was a fabric of love and
devotion. A memorial service will be conducted 11
a.m. Wednesday, February 17, at River Road
Church, Baptist. The family will receive friends
immediately after the service at the church.
Interment will be private. The family requests that
in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the
River Road Church, Baptist, Building Fund or the
charity of your choice.
