spelling occurred throughout the years.

Subject: Causbie surname
Hi!
John Robert Causbie was born in Lewisburg, Marshall Co., TN 9 Nov 1869
and married Myrtle Mae Butler 25 Dec 1893 in Dallas, TX. He died 29 Jun
1970 in Weatherford, Parker Co., TX. Myrtle died there also 17 May
1967. Their children were James Marion Causbie, Ora Bell (Jacobs), Dora
Adelade (Nelson, Leland & Dyer), John Leonard, Jewell Mae (Sneed &
Norrell), Ona Mary (Harper), Benjamin Samuel Cosby (he changed his name
to simplify things), William Chester, Allie Evalyn (Werner) and John
Robert Causbie. My husband's father is John Leonard Causbie. Sam,
Evalyn, Ona and Robert are still living.
John Robert's father was Washington Jackson Cosby. He was born in
Marshall Co., TN Dec. 1826 and married Rhoda Ellen Russell. Rhoda died
in 1876 in Lewisburg. From there Wash and his children moved to
Arkansas. Somewhere along the line, the children started spelling their
names "Causbie". Wash's children were James Marshall, John Robert,
Samuel Monroe and Ella. I have seen her name as Mary Ella.
Wash's father was Josiah Cosby, born in 1798 in North Carolina. He was
possibly married to Ann Crunk(?). The census showed a Nancy Crunk in
the residence who was considerably older than Ann and Josiah. We
presume it was Ann's mother. Ann was born in 1802 in North Carolina.
Their children were Samuel Monroe who was born in 1824 and Washington
Jackson Cosby. Wash was called "Hick" after Old Hickory Andy Jackson.
Sam married a Martha A. (Aunt Mat) Russell 31 Mar 1855 in TN and Wash
married Rhoda Ellen Russell, probably sisters.
We are trying to locate any information previous to Josiah Cosby. The
tradition is that the original family name was Corsbie and that they
immigrated from Scotland. There is a listing in the "Directory of Scots
Banished to the American Plantations 1650-1775" by David Dobson,
Genealogical Pub. Co., Baltimore, 1983 for James Corsbie who was
transported from Leith to Jamaica by John Ewing, August 1685. This is
all we have. We don't know if this is our connection or not.
Do you have anything to help us?
Thank you so much. I have more to share.
