Checking to see if your newsletter might help gather information on the
Cosby family that lived in and near Louisa Co., VA in the 1700's. Part of
the family later moved to Wilkes Co., GA about 1790.
I am especially interested in one Hickerson Cosby (Hickinson, Higgerson,
etc.) who may have been the son of Ann Cosby and Griffeth Dickinson. Oral
tradition has it that his full name was Hickerson Cosby Dickinson but
shortly after he was born, his mother died and he was taken by his uncle,
John Cosby, to raise. He became known by his first two names and supposedly
joined the army and married using the shortened name. No one knows if this
is true.
This surname traces back to Francis Cosby of Stradbally, Ireland.
Does the newsletter consider this particular Cosby line?
Thanks,
john Culley
