OBITUARY FOR LEORA BATES GOLDSBERRY - The remains of Mrs. Leora Goldsberry were interred
yesterday at the expense of Fairfield township in the Loveless Cemetery, four miles east
of Colfax. Mrs. Goldsberry died on last Tuesday night at the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Bates, 517 South 20th street. Her death was caused by consumption and she was
taken away after a lingering illness. She leaves a husband, William R. Goldsberry, of
Colfax, and one child. The parents of Mrs. Goldsberry were unable to bear the funeral
expense and it remained for the township to give her burial.
"TALE OF CRUELTY" -- Parents of dead woman tell pitiful story of desertion by
husband - The saddened life of Leora Goldsberry ended in bitter grief Tuesday night at the
humble home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bates, 517 South 20th Street. A child one
year old and her sorrowing parents mourn her death, which was caused by consumption. Her
husband, William R. Goldsberry, son of Francis M. Goldsberry, the attorney at Colfax was
not at the bedside when the end came, and the parents of the dead woman charge that he
refused to come and take care of the remains of his wife. The parents state that he
received messages announcing her death, and that he was begged to go to her and make some
provision for the disposition of her body. Twenty-four hours passed with no appearance of
the husband and the Township Trustee, Eldon L. Lane, was notified. The parents were
