Sallie Causby
BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Sallie Leila Porter Causby, 104, of Crawley Memorial Hospital, died
Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Crawley.
Born May 13, 1898, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Eliza Ann
Barrett Porter. Her husband was the late Ed Ellis Causby. When asked why she thought she
had lived so long, Mrs. Causby was always quick to answer, "I have lived my life for
the Lord." She will be greatly missed by her loved ones. She was a lifelong member of
Buffalo Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Julius "Nesby"
Causby; a daughter, Florene Causby; three grandchildren, Patsy Petty Lovelace and Ronald
and Harvey Causby; a great-great-granddaughter, Shayla Moore; two daughters-in-law, Vernie
Davis Causby and Annell Wright Causby; two sons-in-law, Lewis Henderson and John Petty;
five brothers, Neal, Benjamin, Phil, Jim and Vernon Porter; and three sister, Vergie
Porter Causby, Josephine Porter Hord and Emma Pearl Porter Hord.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe and Martha Causby and Sam and
Eddie "Ray" Causby, all of Shelby; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Gertrude
Causby Petty of Shelby, Emma Sue Causby Henderson of Kings Mountain, Margaret Causby and
Lowell Lee and Wanda Causby and B.B. Lewis, all of Shelby; nine grandchildren, JoRene
Causby Chandler of Florida, Robin Causby Bridges, Lisa Causby Hubbard, Sheila Lewis Davis,
Kathy Lewis Phillips and Robert Alan Lewis, Larry Gene Causby, Geraldine Petty Transiskus,
Judy Grigg Smith, all of Shelby; 26 great-grandchildren; and 16
great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Revs. Max
Turner, Allen Davis and Danny Lewis officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30
minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and
at other times at the home of Wanda and B.B. Lewis, 908 E. Main St. in Shelby.
