FRANK J. CAUSBY
MORGANTON - Frank J. Causby, 94, of Grace Ridge Retirement Community, formerly of Lenoir
and Fox streets, died May 20, 2002, at Grace Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Burke County.
An adult Bible school teacher, he was director of the church building campaign. A
Morganton businessman, he manufactured a child's wooden "Farmer's Red
Wagon," owned two shoe repair shops, was a millwright, and recruited for the Carbon
Plant in Morganton. He served in the civil service in Honolulu, Hawaii, French Morocco,
North Africa and was a member of the North Carolina Sheriff's Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Josephine Weir Causby, a son James Herbert
"Byrd" Causby, and a daughter, Margaret E. Shaffer.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Nelda Fuller of Morganton and Frankie L.
and Dr. Cecil W. Watson of Fishers, Ind., and Leslie Shaffer of Drexel; a daughter-in-law,
Margie Gordon Causby of Greensboro; two brothers-in-law and wives, Jim and Sarah Weir of
Drexel and David and Teresa Weir of Glen Bernie, Md.; six grandsons, Michael B. Watson of
New York, N.Y., Jeffrey Fuller, Donald Fuller and James Fuller of Anderson, Ind., James
Causby Jr. of Fairhope, Ala., and Darren Shaffer of Hickory; three granddaughters, Karen
Watson-Newlin of Verona, Wis., Lynn Causby of Peru, South America, and Debbie Powers of
Chesapeake, Va.; four great-grandsons, Johnny Fuller, Nathan Fuller, of Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology in Terra Haute, Ind., Joshua Fuller of Anderson, Ind., and
Nicholas Newlin, of University of Wisconsin in Madison; three great-granddaughters, Sara
Fuller and Jennifer Fuller of Anderson, Ind., and Meredith Newlin of Verona, Wis.; two
nephews, Jack Weir an!
d David Propst of Morganton; five nieces, Carolyn Weir-Pierce of Newton, Bette Davis of
Alexandria, Va., Juanita Davis-Snyder of San Antonio, Texas, Edna Karnes of Mauldin, S.C.,
and Ellen Canipe of Charlotte; and a friend, Verla Johnson of Granite Falls.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Revs. Donald J. Smith, Greg Brown and Larry
McCaw at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Drexel.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will be in Burke Memorial Park. The family will be at Sossoman Funeral Home, 1011
S. Sterling St., Morganton, from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
