Tommy Watts, 92, of US 64, Morganton, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at his residence
following several years of declining health. He was born March 14, 1914, in Burke County
and was a son of the late Herbert Washington Watts and Etta Roper Watts. In addition to
his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Callie Mae Causby Watts; brothers,
Albert and James Watts; and sisters, Carrie Rollins and Doris Watts. Tommy was a member of
Denton's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a retired employee of Wamsutta. Tommy
also worked for a number of years in the sawmill business and as an auto mechanic.
Throughout his life, he was an avid gardener and fiddle player. Mr. Watts is survived by
daughters, Lena Watts Taylor and husband, Melvin, of Morganton, Loretta Dean Watts
McCracken and husband, Charles, of Rutherford College, and Wilma Jean Watts of the home;
grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Peggy Taylor, Vicki and Mark Leonard, Donald and Sue
McCracken, Carol and Mike Hedrick!
, Charlene and Darrell Spann and Tony and Darla McCracken; great-grandchilden, Tiffany
and Lauren Taylor, Amelia McGee, Holly McCracken, Pam McCracken, Steven Hedrick, Dana
Stillwell, Lisa Spann, Jessica McCracken, Kelly McCracken and Timothy McCracken; 10
great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Rob Watts of Morganton; sisters, Essie Waters and
Velsie McCurry, both of Morganton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Denton's Chapel United Methodist Church with the
Rev. Alan Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will
receive friends Wednesday one hour before the service at the church. At other times, the
family will be at the residence, 4869 US 64, Morganton. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd.,
