Nora Gurley
Nora Anderson Gurley, 95, of Causby Road, Morganton, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Autumn
Care of Drexel following a period of declining health. She was born July 8, 1909, in Burke
County and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Mincey Anderson. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Bill Causby, Merle Walters and Lemmie
Gurley; a son, Paul Causby; a granddaughter, Audrey Clontz; and sisters, Mary Jo Allen and
Annie Rae Clontz. Until her health failed, she was a faithful and active member of the
First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine. She taught Sunday school for many years.
Nora is survived by a son and his wife, Ralph and Becky Causby of Greensboro; a daughter,
Faye Clontz of Morganton; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Causby of Kernersville; a brother, Bud
Anderson of Glen Alpine; step-sons, Gene Walters of Trevose, Pa. and Charles Walters of
Holiday, Fla.; step-daughters, Sue Cannon of Rutherford College and Frances Honsaker of
Connelly Springs; grandchildren, Michael Clontz, Garrett Causby, Fritts Causby and Lisa
Dunn; great-grandchildren, Christopher Killen, Jack and Corbin Causby, and Zack, Alex and
Thomas Dunn; and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the First Baptist Church of Glen Alpine
with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Alpine Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, at Sossoman Funeral Home, where
the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral hour. At
other times, the family will be at the residence of Faye Clontz, 330 Causby Road,
Morganton. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 557,
