I do not have the pension papers on hand, however one of his grand-daughters does have
them and is getting them copied for me. According to her data, this John N was born May
16, 1840 (although 1880 census indicated 1846) location indeterminate. He joined 11th NC
regiment comp d in 1862 and served until 1865. Then was found in Colbert County, Al in
1880, married with two children and mother-in-law. Family data indicates married in 1872
in Ala. No one knows what the "N" stood for. Evidently when family moved to Ms
in 1904, spelling was changed to Cosby.
I think there is a good chance this is the same person, but will know more when the copy
is received. I talked to his grand-daughter Thursday night (she is 81) and she was very
willing to share the information, but doesn't use a computer. She must take the
papers to some place to copy and mail them. I'll send you the information as soon as
I can review it.
