Chiefland Citizen
Chiefland, FL
Feb. 26, 2015
Johnny W. Tallent(1920 - 2015
Johnny W. Tallent, 94, went to meet the Lord Feb. 22, 2015 peacefully at his home with
family.
Johnny was born May 18, 1920 to Martin Tallent and Elsie Causby in Concord, N.C. He served
his country during World War II from 1944 - 1946 as a Seaman First Class U.S. Navy onboard
the USS Arthur L. Bristol. He worked at Cannon Mills before joining the Navy. Upon
returning from the Navy he took classes in accounting and opened a furniture store.
He was a catcher for a minor league baseball team in Concord. He later owned and operated
Auld Golf with his son, Tim.
Johnny retired to Florida to pursue his love of golf. He was a founding member of the
Chiefland Golf and Country Club where he spent many a day with dear friends. He made three
hole-in-ones in his life, the most recent at the age of 89. He played his last round of
golf in January of this year refusing to give up his love for the game. ?He truly believed
if you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all. He was a
man of God and truly inspired others by his actions and deeds. His strength and belief
that God wasn't finished with him yet helped him to live a full life to the age of
94.? He is survived by his son, Tim (Dianne) Tallent, Bunny (Jeff) Adams; grandchildren,
John Leslie, Toby (Nancy) Hammett, Shawn (Gena) Hammett, Aaron (Robyn) Lane, Beth
(Lincoln) Cannon, Angela (Eric) Nichols, Andrew Tallent, James Adams; 10
great-grandchildren and brothers, James, Jerry, Fred and Robert.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Tallent; daughters, Janice Hammett and Judy
Walden; brothers, Henry, Luther, Harold, Paul and sister, Pauline.
A memorial service will be held Concord Baptist Church Chiefland Sunday March 1 at 3 p.m.
