Hi
I just sent some info to Mark, but it didn't get to the main list, so I
will repost.
I am descended from James CAULK and Deborah. Through their oldest daughter,
Nancy who married John CRAIG, 21 Mar 1816, Green, KY. I can tell you a
little about her. She was b. 1795 by consistent census records, but 25 Jun
1794 by tombstone. Also, her mother, Deborah, signed consent for her
marriage, and she wouldn't have had to if she had been born in 1794. She was
Methodist. She was illiterate. At the end of her life she was declared
incompetent, and her daughter Margaret CRAIG FLOWER HATHAWAY, along with her
son in law, Charles Hathaway were guardians. She died 30 Jan 1885 in Onawa,
Monona, IA.
In 1880 census, she stated she was born in MD, and her Father in Wales. No
listing for her mother. Her children gave different places for the birth of
their mother. VA, KY
I have a photo of her, very old. You know, shoe leather old.
She and Her husband John CRAIG traveled to Morgan
County, IN along with his brother Hiram T. CRAIG
Stotts, Offield, and Watts are other names listed from Green Co.
He then traveled to Will, IL after the death of his father James CRAIG in
1839. and was there in 1840. His Dau Eliza m. Elijah Walker 19 May 1840 in
Will Co. He had 1 male child in the household b. 1815-20. Another young man
was with him in the 1840 Census. Either Elijah and Eliza or his youngest
brother Joseph CRAIG and his wife
Sarah WOOLARD whose first born was born in IL.
From there they moved to Grundy Co, IL and his two other daughters married
FLOWER brothers. In 1850, he has a 6 yr old John A. CRAIG living with them.
I believe a grandson, son of the Unknown young man b. 1815-20 who lived with
them until 1840. Otherwise, Nancy is 51 at his birth. John A. is with them
in 1860, 16 yrs old. He enlists in 1861, and nothing more is known. The
History of Monona Co. seemed to think it was John Sr. who enlisted, but he
was 68.
John was killed in 1864 while traveling back from California when a wagon
overturned on him. He had sold a vineyard in California to William Newton
Hathaway. He also bought horses in CA for the war, by family history.
I find a John CRAIG buying land in what would become Sonoma Co. CA in 1848.
The surveyor was _____ B. Ide who was the first governor of the independent
California, and the current governor was Joachim Vallejo. I have no proof
this is my John CRAIG, but sounds like it.

In Looking for my Isaac Cox supposed to be from Cecil Co. MD. I found an
Isaac Caulk m. to an Elizabeth in the minutes of Quaker Meetings I believe.
They were mentioned as parents of a daughter, when her marriage was
announced. It will take me quite awhile to find the info as it is in one of
my horizontal files (stacks). Nan
