Dear Samuel,
I am a great-grandson of Hubert (not Herbert) Caulfield, the organist and brother of
Edward, James, Thomas, William, Robert, Alfred and sisters. Hubert died in 1911 in
Hartford and he had nine children. My grandfather was Hubert A. Caulfield Jr.. The
family of Caulfields came from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England. The father of all of the
sons listed above was Thomas and he was married to Sarah Ellerker. Thomas was the son of
Edward a Sargent in the East India Regiment of the English Army. Edward was stationed on
St. Helena island from 1815 through 1830+. Thomas was born on St. Helena. Edward was
most likely born in Ireland in 1795 and was married to Eleanor Veasey.
That is where I run out of further Caulfield information back in time. I do not know when
Edward (the Sgt.) died nor do I know when Thomas (father of Hubert et al) died. I do know
that three brothers, Edward, Hubert and James, all married Boyle sisters from Richmond
Va..
My great aunt, Edith Caulfield, is the dautgher of Hubert (d. in 1911). She is still
alive and is 97 years old. She is the source of most of what I know about the Caulfields.
Please reply and perhaps we can learn more of our common heritage.
