Dear Pamb102,
I have only just started researching Caulfields this year. But I have a John Caulfield,
born in Chicago, IL in 1873 to James and Margaret Thornton Caulfield. The 1880 census
shows John age 7 living with his father James, now a widower, and grandfather Patrick
Thornton. I have written to the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago to obtain a copy of James
& Margaret's marriage certificate; it is in the archive on the Internet as having
occurred in 1872. The 1900 census shows James to have remarried, and living in Chicago
with wife Mary and their four children, James, Linus, Madeleine and my great-grandfather
Howard Caulfield, born in 1888 or 89. By 1900 John was no longer living with his father.
In both the 1880 and 1900 census, James' occupation is listed as a postal carrier.
James was born in 1845 in Ireland and emigrated between 1855 and 1860. Hope this is
helpful!
Sincerely, Kathryn Evenson

My grandmother's maiden name was Helen Bernice Caulfield. She is buried in Calvary
Cemetery in Lebanon, MO. Her father was John H. Caulfied and mother Essie Wolf. Are we
related? I don't know alot about my grandmother's family. The family story is
that they were prominent people that her father was a banker and county judge?
