Hi Vivien,
Yes, I've come across Edward and Martin Caulfield, but only in my research; I
haven't been able to connect them to my family. I can get back to only about 1847 on
my Caulfield line; that's when they immigrated to America. Edward could easily be my
ancestor's father or uncle, but I have no proof.
I'm having great difficulty finding information on my Caulfields in both America and
Ireland. However, I would imagine since Edward was born in Roscommon, we are probably all
related. Most of the Caulfields I've encountered in my research were born in other
locations. Thus I've concluded that all Caulfields born in Roscommon are related!
I do know that my ancesters held a lease to a "castle" in Moore Parish,
Roscommon, Ireland, which my many greats grandfather Patrick Caulfield sold when he moved
his family to the United States. According to my family lore, the lease had been held in
the Caulfield family for many generations prior to my Patrick. I found information at one
website about Donamon Castle that confirms this fact.
Patrick's granddaughter is my grandmother on my mother's side. How are you
related to the Caulfields, besides being a direct descendant? When did your Caulfield
ancestors immigrate to the U.S.?
Happy to hear from you,
Becky :-)
