The Caulfield's were the Lords and Earls of Clarlemont, and Donamon was one of there
country estates. They also had Castle Caulfield up in the North although I don't think
it exists anymore. My line of Caulfield's are descended from them and I can only
assume that yours are as well as your family comes from the same town as the castle. If
you are having difficulty tracking them down you might be able to jump back and work your
way forward to a connection I can only assume your ancestor was a younger member of the
family and therefore did not gain title or fourtune and moved away from the castle like
mine. Also look in both Church of Ireland Records as well as Catholic as my anscestor who
arrived in Kilacloughan was Anglican and converted to marry. The one of the Caulfields did
mary a girl from the King Family from the Rockingham Estate they wre titled (Lord
Rockingham)like the Caulfield's so you might find reference to the family as this
marrage is supposedly how the Caulfie!
lds came to Dunamon. It get's a little tricky finding documentation of the time due
to the penial laws, and forced eviction, and the famine durring the early to mid 19th
Century, but gentry are far easier to track down. you could search with these names and
possibly find something related to what you are specificaly looking for.
