I suggest contacting Cathy O'Neill in Ireland who is a volunteer researcher for Co.
Galway. She was a huge help to me. CathOneill(a)aol.com. She has access to earlier Census
Reports as well. I found her contact info here
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlgal/volunteer.htm
She may tell you that you'll need more info in order to go further in your search but
she's very familiar with alternate spellings of names so she may get lucky and find
something. For instance, she helped me find my ggrandmother Delia Coyne who was baptized
as Bridget Kyne.
The record of baptism helped lead me to the parish in which my ggrandmother lived. I knew
that my ggrandfather lived close to her so that helped me narrow down the John Caulfields
(there are many for Galway). Once I had the parish/townland I found my Thomas J.
Caulfield. With the townland information I was able to go to the valuation office in
Dublin and found the land records. I checked out the area and found people who introduced
me to Caulfields. As I mentioned there are two Caulfield families living in Inveran
(Spiddal) now and they aren't related. Caulfield was a very popular name in the
1800s. I'll look at my records at home to see if I ordered any online records that
might be of help to you.
