Searching for Patrick Caulfield, married to Mary. Family story has it that Patrick held a
lease to a farm from Lord Edwards who had a castle near the Shannon River. The lease had
been in the Caulfield family for years. I recently discovered that Donamon Castle in
County Roscommon was leased by Caulfields for a couple of centuries and is on the River
Suck, which is a tributary of the Shannon River, so I'm assuming this is the castle to
which our family lore refers. Patrick & Mary had at least four sons: John, James,
Matthew, & Patrick and only one daughter: Bedelia Mallisa, aka Bridget. Apparently
either Patrick or Mary was previously married as family lore states John is half brother
to Bedelia. This family supposedly immigrated to U.S. in 1847, but it could have been up
to three years before or after. Bedelia was born in June 1836 and was reportedly nine
years old at time of immigration. She & her family became separated in Canada and she
was a grandmother before her b!
rother Patrick found her. At age 18, she married Daniel Miller of Canada and they lived
at the St. Lawrence River. My requests to Ireland repositories and societies have been
returned stating their records don't go back that far. Any help is greatly
appreciated! Any relatives gladly met!!!
Becky :-)
