Edward was married to Eleanor Vaesey or Vasey. I am not sure but I think she could have
also been from Roscommon in Ireland as there are others there by that name.
Edward entered the service in 1808 and left in 1836 so most of his adult life he was in
the army. He was 5' 7" tall and had blue eyes and dark hair. After he left the
service he was a shoemaker. I am not sure of when he died and am anxiously awaiting the
1871 census records to see if he was still around then. He would have been fairly old.
I have written to Co. Roscommon and have learned that church records are quite scanty for
someone born in 1795 as was Edward. I presume that his father's name was Thomas as it
was generally the custom for a son to name his first-born son after his father. However,
I do not know.
I have a picture of Edward's wife that was taken in Gateshead, County Durham when she
was older. I would think that the picture dates from the 1860's. Again, with the
1871 census of that area to be online within the next few months (I hope) I will be able
to learn more about where she or her sons, Thomas and Henry were living at that time and
can start working on that more then.
I have visited England and researched the census records myself but, without an address,
it is like hunting for a needle in a haystack.
Are you descended from the Caulfields? If so, how? I might be able to tell you more
about subsequent generations from Edward. Or, maybe you know more than I do. That would
be great news for me.
Thanks,
Brian
