Trying to trace origins and family of:
Dennis Caulfield b: June 1842 in Roscommon Ireland. Came to US in 1857 per census
records. Lived with mother Catherine, widow and sister Meary (Mary?) per the 1880 census.
Later in life another unmarried sister came to live with him named Bridget Caulfield.
This was when he lived in Milford NH where he had moved his family in 1886. They lived on
the corner of Union and Cherry and the house remained in the family until 1975.
He married Mary Frances Dunlea b: Feb 2, 1843 in Ireland, on Jun 6, 1870 at St. Francis De
Salles Catholic Church in Roxbury. She had arrived US in 1853 per census records.
Children Margaret b: 1871 in Roxbury, Catherine b: 1873 in Roxbury?, John Joseph b:1874 in
Malden, James A. b: 1877 in Malden, Ellen V. b: 1879 in Jamaica Plain, Thomas Francis b:
1881 in Jamaica Plain, and Mary Jane b: 1885 in Jamaica Plain.
He died in Milford 1926, I believe on Aug 2 which should have been Monday of that week.
His obit states he died on a Monday but copy I have has no date. Survived by 5 children,
18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also sister Bridget who had recently come to
live with him. House stayed in the family and the unmarried “girls” continued living
there until the last niece past in 1975.
I also have one more intriguing bit from a box of old letters and pictures. There is no
date on it but most things in the box range from WW1 to the forties--a letter from “Cousin
Annie” which has Carrickmagrath, Ballybofey written at the top. It is just a little thank
you note to a Caulfield cousin for a present so I have no idea whether Annie is a
Caulfield or a Dunlea.
