Karen,
I'm sorry, I don't have any information that matches yours. However, I
haven't made it back to 1820 yet!
My Patrick Caulfield's wife was Mary. They were married in Ireland and all their
children were born in Ireland. They had only one daughter, Bedelia Mallisa, also known as
Bridget, their last child. Bridget married Daniel Miller in Ontario, Canada.
Patrick & Mary's sons, as far as we know, were James, Michael, Patrick and John.
I think there was a Matthew, too.
Per family legend, the entire family immigrated to American in 1847, via England, then
Canada. Bedelia was age 9 at the time. Mother Mary died shortly after their arrival in
New York City.
We have heard of the surname Schofield, but haven't found it in connection to our
family ... yet. However, I'm still searching for their immigration record, and I
haven't tried the Scofield surname. There are so many spelling variations for both
surnames ...
The son Patrick, served in the military and died in a military hospital in California. He
made front page news when he married around age 80 or 90. I haven't been able to find
the newspaper article. My mom remembers her grandmother, Patrick's niece, exclaiming
over the article and showing the picture of he and his bride coming down the court house
steps. Mom was young at the time, living in the Bay Area of California. Her grandmother,
Frances Miller, had several different newspapers delivered to her, and Mom doesn't
know in what paper the article appeared. I'm hoping by locating the right Patrick
Caulfield, I can then obtain his service records to see if I can get more information on
the family.
If any of this matches any of your family, I would be interested in sharing more
information.
