I'm looking to connect a Patrick Caufield who married in Lafayette County, Missouri, back to County Mayo. He was born in 1854 in Ireland and married in 1878 in the Catholic Church in Lexington. He notes his parents as Michael Caulfield and Bridget Broden? (unsure of spelling of his mom's last name). Patrick married Mary McGuire. The McGuire surname, although unconfirmed, I believe is also from County Mayo.
Any help would be appreciated.
The Frank Caulfield search continues (albeit sporadically).
Here is what I have, and I would ask if any of you could possibly shed some
light or further information to what I have dedeuced. I have attempted to put
it down in a logical format, but please don't hesitate to ask me any
questions.
In the 1880 census, Frank Caulfield is listed as Coffield [sic] and is 27
years and born in Rensaler [sic] county. His wife is Jennie age 21 born in
Albany, and 3-month old daughter Harriet born in Albany. This would put his
birth year as about 1853. This is my family.
In 1855, there is a Francis Caulfield aged 7, who is the son of Francis and
Margaret in Troy. This Frank appears to be the same as the Francis age 21 in
1870 married to Ann and with daughter Mary E. He is also found in 1880, age
32 and still married to Ann and with children Mary E., Ann and Daniel. So,
this could not be my Frank.
In 1860, there is a Frank listed in another family. The census has him as 10
years old, but this could be an error depending upon who guessed the ages
when talking with the census taker. There appears to be a lot of errors
between the 1860 and 1870 census. It reads:
Martin Coffield, 50, M, Laborer, Ireland - 7th Ward, City of Troy, NY
Mary, 40, F, Ireland
Susan, 13, F, NY
Mary, 11, F, NY
Frank, 10, M, NY
Mat., 9, M, NY
Patrick, 7, M, NY
In 1870, it reads:
Matthew Caulfield, 65, M, Laborer, Ireland - 7th Ward, City of Troy, NY
Mary, 60, F, Ireland
Matthew Jr., 16, M, Laborer, NY
Patrick, 14, M, NY
Even though there are age discrepancies, this is probably the same family.
Does anyone have any information on this family? I am really hoping that this
is the family my Frank belongs to.
Thanks for any help you can give me,
Ruth (Schmitz) Cherecwich
To those wondering if this list ever does a roll call, the answer is yes.
We haven't had one since I first took over as "list mom". I see no reason
why we can't have another. We have new members subscribing all the time.
So, I think a "ROLL CALL" is in order.

Dear Ray,
I wish I could be of help to you but I can't. I have looked over all of the
names you mentioned. None seem to be any names from my family tree nor have
I heard of any relatives from the Delaware area.
I have printed out your email and promise that if I find a connection in the
future, I will contact you.
Best of luck on your search. Mimi
The following link was posted to a Missouri List I am subbed to. I have
asked permission of the person who posted this link and received it so am
sending it out to you. I have found the whole article to be quite shocking
from many vantage points. In sending this out, I am hoping that similar
situations will possibly be averted in other areas.

Very funny story featuring a Caulfield. A relative of
someone on this list perhaps?
Irish Fans Turn Out En Masse
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Filed at 11:44 p.m. ET
CHIBA, Japan (AP) -- Consider this a measure of
devotion to the Irish team: Declan Caulfield left for
two weeks in Japan to cheer on Ireland just five days
after his wife gave birth to their second daughter.
That isn't all. Caulfield plans to cover the hundreds
of miles between Ireland's three World Cup matches on
his mountain bike -- which is green, of course. He's
got nine green Ireland soccer jerseys to wear along
the way.
``I miss her, I miss them all, but this is the World
Cup, this is Japan,'' Caulfield, 30, said Sunday, a
day after he and 7,000 other Irish fans cheered at a
1-1 tie against favored Cameroon in Niigata, on
Japan's northern coast.
Ireland might be a country of just 3.8 million, but
when the national team qualifies for the World Cup --
this is only the third time that's happened -- they
turn out en masse to show their support. Even if it
means traveling halfway around the world.

fella)

Dear George,
Sorry, I should be very specific when talking to a genealogist. James and
Thomas were probably brothers. They lived in Woodpark, near Ballyhaunis in
County Mayo, Ireland.
James came to the US about 1906 and settled in Manhattan. He was my
grandfather. He was in his 20's. Every record I have found gives a different
age.
There is a marriage record of a Thomas Caulfield in Wolverhampton in 1894.
The Thomas related to me lived in Wolverhampton, England around the 1950's.
He was my father's uncle.
Geographically, Wolverhampton is located fairly close to Birmingham, in the
West Midlands of the UK. Why he went there is unknown to me but I played a
hunch and found other Caulfields there in the 1700's. Perhaps he went there
because there were 'cousins' already settled there. Wolverhampton has a
great site (I reached it by typing Wolverhampton, England into
www.google.com) which has a some church records on it.
Good luck. Mimi
Mimi,
First found the Caulfields in the US about 1855. I was told that they came from England, but that could be where they left from.
George

Hi-- I believe we have a Henry Caulfield (possibly a cousin) but I place him
in Virginia around the turn of the Century. Were your Caulfields from
Ireland or England? My Grandfather was from County Mayo, but one brother
moved to England, both in the early 1900's. Mimi W

Hi--I do have a Thomas Caulfield (brother or uncle of James) who left County
Mayo, Ireland and moved to Wolverhampton, England around the turn of the
Century. I do not know who he married or any other details about his life.
