Hi, Sally,
Nice to meet another Caughey researcher. There aren't very many of us.<G>
I'm vaguely familiar with your Patrick or at least a Patrick and would
certainly love to find out more about him. My relative is a John Caughey
(one of many) b. 1747 in PA. I have been unable to locate his parents so
I've been researching all of the PA CAUGHEYS.
Now this is what I've learned.
The references in Ellis and Evan's History of Lancaster County gives
Patrick on pg. 653
There are 5 Caughey listed in the D.A.R. Revolutionary Soldiers for whom
memberships has been obtained are Francis, Andrew, Several Johns, Patrick,
and Samuel. It was suggested that there were others that the spelling was
not recognized.
In Margaret McCrearys book on the McCreary Clan pg. 53.
"There was also another Samuel Caughey in Drumore Township who died in
1766, whose estate was administered by his son Patrick. As mentioned
before, there are tax records for Francis and Patrick Caughey in 1748 in
East Fallowfield, Chester County, Penn. How Francis and Patrick are
related is not known." Francis is her ancestor.
There was a Patrick Caughey, p. 110 of the 1790 PA Census of Lancaster-Bart
In this family were 1 male -over 16 2 males under sixteen and 2 females.
(Tells us a lot doesn't it? <G>)
Also on that census were the families of
Francis Caughey p. 126 Lancaster-Bart
Samuel Caughey, p. 16 Fayette, Springhill
John Gahee p. 129 Washington
Andrew Caughey p. 129 Lancaster, Colerain
Samuel Gahey, p. 139 Lancaster, L.B.
John Cahey p. 154 Mifflin, N. Jun. River
Nathaniel Cahey, p. 245 Washington Co.
Patt Caughey Fayette - Union
There was no information on this Patt Caughey.
In 1810 Census Index there was a
PatrickCaughey
All, Mifflin. No page was given.
This is all I've found on Patrick Caughey. Hope something might give you a
lead as to
where to look. If you check the library you might be lucky enough to find
"John McCreary Clan" The Caughey families are in Part VI A & Part VI B.
She deals particularly with
a John and Francis Caughey and John's daughter Elizabeth.
She has listed some information on each family she identified as a CAUGHEY
though.
and has some interesting history of the family and some family lore.
I would be interested in anything you learn about the PA Caugheys.
