During a vist to the Linenhall Library on 17 June 1998, I searched
Slatter's Directory, 1870:
Mrs Rebecca CAUGHEY lived at Clondara; Alexander CAUGHEY, Provision
Merchant, traded at Ballymacarrett; Ann CAUGHEY, Provision Merchant,
traded at 16 New Dock Street, Belfast; John CAUGHEY, was Secretary at
the Fall's Flax Spinning Company, Fall's Road, Belfast, and W.B. CAUGHEY
(jun) traded as a Commission Merchant, at 54 Waring Street, Belfast.
The Belfast Street Directory, 1880 showed that:
A. CAUGHEY was a Grocer at 298-300 Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast; J &
R B CAUGHEY were Roompaper Merchants at 77 Victoria Street, Belfast, and
WILLIAM CAUGHEY, traded at 9 St. Jame's st, Newtownards, Co. Down.
I note that Thomas HOLDEN, lived at 33 Brougham Street, Belfast, and
wonder if he was related to Henry HOLDEN, my g-grandfather M J CAUGHEY's
bestman?
