Hello listers. I have just discovered a few details about one set of my 3X great
grandparents - James CAUGHEY was born Jan 29 1808 in Killough, Co. Down - married c 1850
to Elizabeth KIRK - born c 1819 - 26 (ages given in census and at burial differ - of
course). They married in 1850, I know not where. James was an enrolled pension, arriving
here in Canada in 1855. He enrolled in 1827, was with the 56th regiment and pensioned off
in 1843. My question is this - having tried to do some research in Ireland previously for
other ancestors, I have never had much success. Any tips from all the learned listers out
there? I am going to check at the LDS center to see if the microfilms for the enrolled
pensioners are still available - but beyond that, does anyone have any suggestions as to
where on earth to start digging about for Co. Down information? There are so many sites
listed in various spots, and although searching through various sites can be adventurous,
I found mysel!
f going on many wild goose chases in previous Irish searches. Any ideas???
Any input greatly appreciated. I'm not asking for anyone to do this research for me -
just wondered how other listers have overcome the "Irish obstacles".
Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing from anyone.
