Hello,
Thanks to John Caughey I was able to find this list. I am interested in
any information on Clan/Family history that anyone has. Is there any
archived information or files for this list that I can retrieve?
The following is a request I posted on soc.geneology.ireland and
wondered if anyone could clarify:
I came accross a clan listing of all the septs accepted by the USA Clan
MacKay on the internet. It said that it would accept anyone interested
in the listing of names. In that listing there were two names that
threw me off, MacHughey and MacHughie. I was under the understanding
in the past that my name was Irish (from O'hEochaidh of Antrim and Down)
and mabie some of the Hueys of Scotland were septs from original Irish
settlers of the scotii. I have never seen any MacHughey/ie's before and
would like to know where this came from.
Also the following is another area that is vague but I am hopeful in
learning more of:
I finally found out who my first ancestor in Canada was. He was my
great great grandfather from Ireland, Isaac Hughey (not sure about the
spelling of Isaac). I am not sure what his age is but my grandfather,
Norman Hughey, is 82 so that puts him born in 1916 and if you assume
that the two fathers before him had children by 25 then my ggrandfather
was born about 1882 and my great great grandfather was born about 1857.
(these are all pretty well guesses)
Grandfather: Norman Hughey
Great Grandfather: Wellington Hughey (buried in Deer Lake Cemetary
Highland Grove ont. Canada)
Great Great Grandfather: Isaac Hughey (immigrated to Canada with his
brother David Hughey) Married a Houston or Hewston (spelling?)
He immigrated to Canada (I think, it might have been the U.S. and then
Canada)
I don't know if anyone will know, but many of you out there in the big
world have a lot better resources than I do.
This and any information that is related to anything Hughey or Caughey
history would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to
read this.
Douglas Hughey
