John,
If you live in Belfast, you might be to help me. I'm trying to find info
ona William Caughey, born in Ireland of Scottish parents around 1792,
according to the 1871 Ontario, Canada Census. His brother was reportedly an
officer with Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 (I have NO
confirmation of this). He married Agnes Leverty and had six children with
her. After she died, he maried a Margaret Orr. He emigrated to Ontario,
Canada some time between 1820 and 1835. I realize that this is a long shot,
but I'm at a bit of a dead end. Another area that might be easier: do you
know which county the family originated in? No one in the US seems to know,
the main choices seem to be County Down and County Tyrone....
Thanks for any assistance you're able to provide,
Don,
You might find a lead among the following:
Samuel Caughey ....
His father: William Caughey, a weaver from Scotland prior 1740. Samuel
was born at Braidstone and died at Greyabbey, Co. Down, aged 96.
Samuel's sons were: James, Samuel, William and David. The two sons who
remained in Canada settled in Perth, New Brunswick. Roland Van Dyne,
adevan(a)eworld.com is a descendant of Samuel.

religious persecution and settled in Donegall about 1688. John Caughey
and his brother Francis went to PA USA in 1750 and pioneered area at
Lake Erie. Francis' son, Andrew married his cousin Elizabeth, daughter
