Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello, Carolyn,
My sources show the children of Edward and Ann Powell as:
John - b bef 1700, Essex Co., VA
Edward - b bef 1700, Essex Co., VA; could be twin of John
Martha (Patsy), b c1792, Essex Co., VA
Annester (Ann), b c1708
Austin (or, Austes), b c1710
Elizabeth, b c1714
Edward (Jr), married between 1737 and 1740 to Grace Cleveland, daughter of
Alexander Cleveland and Milley Presley. As far as I, and others can determine,
his and Grace's children are mostly unknown. Speculation is that they were:
Cleveland, Benjamin, James, William, Isaac (or, Isaiah Zarrah).
To further complicate the matter, Chesley's ancestry is mostly unknown. Some have
suggested that he was the son of an unknown Coffey who married a Miss Chesley.
The children of Chesley and Jane Cleveland _appear_ to be (but are not proven):
Joel; Salathiel; Chesley, Jr.; Nebuzaradon; Nathan; Cleveland, or perhaps Jesse
Cleveland; and maybe others. Some descendants of Chesley generally agree that he
was the son of Edward, Jr. and an unknown first wife, perhaps a daughter of a
Chesley Martin. Martin-Graves-Chesley-Coffey associations have been found in
Virginia and in North Carolina.
An excellent discussion of the above can be found in the book James Blueford
Coffey His Ancestors and Descendants in America, Vol I and II, Marvid D. Coffey,
1984, 1994. Marvin can be reached by writing to him at 4771 E. Hillcrest Rd.,
Medford, OR 97504.

Jennifer,
Do you have any idea when William Coffee Berry and Mary Berry were born? There
were a number of Rice Coffee/ys in the middle 1700's and later and dates might
help us narrow down which might have been their father.
Having said that, however, I have looked at all the Rice Coffee/ys that I have
indexed, and their sources without finding any reference to one of them having
fathered children by anyone other than their wives.

I'm new to this list and I'm looking for information on a man named RICE
COFFEE (b. and d. Unknown, n the mid-1700's). Now, I always thought that my
ancestors were BERRY's.
Heres the sordid tale: BRADLEY BERRY (d. 1795 in Virginia) was
married to ELIZABETH FIELDS (b. March 4, 1755 in Virginia, d. May 24, 1824 in
Buncomb Co., NC). ELIZABETH was the dau. of RICHARD FIELDS and ELIZABETH
MURRELL of Amherst Co., VA. (Sources on this are shady, writting by a lady
that desperately wanted to get into the DAR.) Anyway, BRADLEY served in the
in the 4th Virginia Company in the American Revolution and apparently he
became wounded and infirm. He and Elizabeth had one child, FRANKLIN BERRY,
born bef. 1789.
But, after when BRADLEY became infirm, ELIZABETH shacked up with this
mystery man, RICE COFFEE. They had two children, WILLIAM COFFEE BERRY and
MARY BERRY. They were BERRY's since Elizabeth was still married to Bradley
Berry, but RICE COFFEE acknowledged them as his own children. WILLIAM COFFEE
BERRY, (my ancestor) later wrote a manuscript about this.
So, if anyone can help me identify my mystery man, RICE COFFEE, I would
be forever indebted to you. Thank you very much!!!!! - Jennifer Dunn
Laquita, I don't think I was around when the spam hit. I've heard about it on
other lists but don't recall the incident at all.
Do you, or anyone else know what the procedure is for maintaining the list
should an owner become unable to handle it? I would like to see the list
continue as well as become more active.
Jack
PS: I'm not certain how secure these lists are now...I saw mail from someone
begging for money on another roots-web list that I subscribe to.

rootsweb?
Since then for safty each sign on has to be confirmed and we can no long
sent for a list of subscribers and their address. That's all I meant. I
believe that information is available only to the listowner.
If you are getting the mail you are still on the list. <G> John Caughey
did much of the work behind the scene I think. I'm just very worried about
him as he hasn't responded to private e-mail and not posted anything on any
of his lists in several months.
Now we've been talking about him and still no response.
