William, aged 11 in the 1870 Census, was William Nixon Reynolds, b. 02 Jan
1859, in Jasper Co GA. He married Rosena Victoria CONNELL before 1879,
probably in Clarke Co GA.
His parents were C. C. Reynolds and Mary C. Reynolds, nee Fowler, who are
enumerated in the 1850 Putnam Co GA Census in the household of J. C. Fowler
and his wife Nancy Fowler, presumed parents of Mary C. Reynolds.
C. C. Reynolds, Private, Co. C, 16th Georgia Cavalry, was a POW and died at
Rock Island Prison, Illinois, on 20 Mar 1864 and is buried in grave # 881 in
the Confederate Cemetery. On 02 May 1864, the 16th Battalion, Georgia
Cavalry was increased to ten companies and constituted the 13th Regiment,
Georgia Cavalry. As a result, C. C. Reynolds is sometimes included on the
roster of Co C, 13th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry even though he was deceased
before the 13th was created.
His widow, Mary C. Reynolds, filed for a pension as a resident of Clarke Co
GA. Her pension was later transferred to Oconee Co GA and then to Banks Co
GA.
Mary Reynolds is enumerated as the head of household #480 in the 1870 Clarke
Co GA Census. In her household were: twin girls aged 17-one of whom was
named Josephine; Mary Ellen, 13; William, 11; Jasper (?), 9; and Walter, 2.
Please note that Lillian Henderson (1964) in her Roster of Confederate
Soldiers of GA, Vol IV (p. 748) has a C. C. Reynolds who was in the 44th
Regiment GA Infantry and who died at Fort Delaware Prison, Delaware. I can
find no other reference to a C. C. Reynolds who was in the 44th Regiment,
Georgia Infantry, nor can I find any documentation of a C. C. Reynolds who
died at Fort Delaware Prison. Therefore, I assume that Lillian Henderson was
mistaken, but in the event that she was not mistaken, I would be very
interested any documentation this C. C. Reynolds. If there were such a C. C.
Reynolds, he would have enlisted in the 44th GA Infantry in Jasper Co GA.
Any additional information or collaboration on these particular REYNOLDS,
CONNELL, FOWLER or CAUDLE families would be much appreciated.
