Dear Linda:
I saw your message of yesterday about your Gr. Grandmother
Narcissus Ellen Caudle who married Charles Gatewood Foster.
My Gr. Gr. Gr. Grandfather Hugh S. Caudle had a daughter
named Narcissus Caudle born about 1857. She was age 3
in the 1860 Atchison Co., MO census. I don't know if this
is your Narcissus, but if you can give me some more info
about her maybe we can figure this out.
Here is the family information on Hugh S. Caudle and family:
Hugh S. Caudle was born in KY about 1812 and married first
Jane Bailey? probably in TN about 1831. They had the
following children: Sarah Caudle b. 1832 in TN
Eliza Jane Caudle b. 1834 in KY
(this is my direct line)
James Caudle b. 1836 prob. in AR
Polina Ann Caudle b. 1837 prob. in AR
Nancy Adeline Caudle b. 1839 in Ray Co., MO
William J. Caudle b. 1841 in Ray Co., MO
Ezekial Caudle b. 1843 in Ray Co., MO
Susan Caudle b. 1844 in Ray Co., MO
After the death of Jane in Ray Co. or Atchison Co., MO,
Hugh married Mary A. Bailey, a daughter of James Bailey &
Nancy Wilson. Hugh's first wife may have been a sister of
James Bailey. Hugh and Mary had the following children:
Martha Ann Caudle b. 1850 in Atchison Co., MO
Hugh Holland Caudle b. 1852 in Atchison Co., MO
Frances Emiline Caudle b. 1855 in Atchison Co., MO
(name could be Emiline Frances)
*Narcissus Caudle b. 1857 in Atchison Co., MO
Marion F. Caudle b. 1859 in Atchison Co., MO
Hugh Caudle died in September 1859 in Callaway Co., MO.
I have never found a marriage record for Narcissus Caudle but
haven't really looked very hard. Perhaps there is a marriage
record for her and Charles Foster in Atchison Co., MO. I will try
to find out, if you think this family fit is possible.
Can you send me the info from the 1880 Dunklin Co., MO
census? I have no record what ever happened to Hugh's
daughter Narcissus. She probably did not die in Atchison Co.
as I have not found her in cemetery records there. She just
disappears after about 1873-1874 when I found guardianship
court records for her.
I sure hope we can find a fit here!!
Sincerely,
Sandy Ceely in Maryland
