Here is a message I just received from one of my cousins. We have not been
successful at all in finding our great great grandfather James Boone
Caudle/Caudill/ Cordle/Cordial/Cordell/etc. during the Civil War. He was
signed up, but evidently did not ever muster in. No children were born
during the Civil War, but more were born after the war. So far, I've not
even been able to find him on the 1870 census, but do find him on the 1880
census. As far as we know, he always lived in Lawrence County, but is
possible he may have been in Johnson County part of the time. Can anyone out
there find some bit of info for him during the Civil War???

Iv'e just spent about two hours checking out Ky. Civil War rosters and data
for eastern Ky. And Im telling you for four or five years James Boon Caudle
did not exist. The man just flat disappeared for four to five years. I did
find mention of a James Caudill in the roster for Company D, 5th Ky. Inf,
CSA. I found a James Cordal on page 230 of the 1870 Census, but he was too
young for JB. I'm telling you the man had to be abducted by alians. If this
is a Caudill Ancestrial joke, I'm not laughing. I just don't see how a man
can disappear and then reappear the way he did
