Hi
I am searching the Caudle surname
I sart with Jesse Caudle b around 1750 m Susanna Unknown.
they had Joshua Caudle m Elizabeh Green
They named one son JOHN
Joshua son Isham named a son John..
Don't know if this is a connection.
The county change in around 1770 may affect searches.
Some of my line went to Arkansas in late 1860.
I found a C C Caudle and Clerance Caudle b est 1880s in MO
in 1910-20 N D I don't know who they connect to.

Subject: [CAUDLE] John Caudle
Hi,
I am trying to find out more about my Caudle relatives. My ancestor
was John Caudle born about 1755 but I do not know where. (probably VA)
He died in Jan 1821 in Chatham Co. N C. I know that he was in Chatham
Co for some time before his death as he has a number of property deeds
there. He was married to Rebecca Willis. She was the daughter of
James and Elizabeth Wilson Willis. John is mentioned along with
Rebecca in James' will. By family lore he had at least 4
children by Rebecca. They were Rebecca, Jane, Cynthia, and either a
James or a John. The census seems to indicate that John (the father)
had three more children.
I think that he might have had a first marriage that produced these
children. He became a guardian of a 15 year old girl in 1794. I
think that this might have been
so that she could care for the children while he did the farming.
Rebecca's father's will was written in 1795 and he died in 1796.
John's name is in the will
which probably means that he married Rebecca in 1795. before the will
was written. Rebecca was quite a bit younger than John and would
have been too young to be the mother of these earlier children.
We know from family lore what happened to John and Rebecca's daughters.
Rebecca had a first marriage but her husband died after 2 years.
She then
married Aaron Hodges and they eventually moved to MO. Jane we believe
married Able Hodges and they moved to MO and then elsewhere.
Cynthia was also married and I do have the name of her husband but not
with me at the moment. We have no idea what happened to James or John.
Jane is my ancestor except that I can't prove it. I have a MO deed for
Able and Jane Hodges. The census records also show Able with Jane and
we know their children.
are correct. The problem is that we can find nothing with her maiden
name. The children were all minors when their father died. I live in
CA but went to the NC archives to see if I could find some record.
There was a death record for the father, John. He did not leave a
will. There is no guardianship record for the children. We can't find
the mother after John's death. except her asking for her yearly
allowance. Able was from Surry Co. NC and the marriage supposedly took
place there but we can't find any record there or anywhere else.
Believe me we have looked.
It is my hope that some of this might be cleared up in some other
Caudle lines. Since we know the names and children for the daughters,
it would have to be for the son James or John
Any suggestions or help that anyone can give me would be much
appreciated.
