Jesse P Caudill is my 3rd great grandfather. He was born in 1795 in Wilkes County and
died in 1891 in Alleghany County. There are numerous people trying to determine who his
father is. Clayton Cox has doubts about it being James Jr because he thinks Jesse P was
born in Alleghany County, but that county didn't exist until 1859. He also states that
he feels his father is Jeremiah but then he list Jeremiah's wife's birthdate as
1787. That would have made her 8 years old when Jesse P was born.
I have found a site that does DNA testing and could put to rest the question of James Jr
being his father or not. The cost for a 12 marker test is 219 dollars each and 279 dollars
for a 21 marker test. There would have to be one from Jesse P's line and one from
James Jr's line tested.
My thought is to try to find enough people interested to get the cost down to about 10
dollars each. I know that I have spent a lot more then that in gas and copy cost and other
things trying to find his father, and I'm sure other people have as well. This seems
like a way to finally get our questions answered.
Please email me at steve737373(a)cs.com and let me know if you are interested or have any
questions. Also if you have any info on Jesse P other then what is in Mr. Cox's books
please let me know. Mr. Cox did a great job with what he had to work with at the time but
even he says to use the books as a guide. A lot of people have taken what is in them as
law and when you ask where they got info on Jesse P, it always seems to go back to Mr.
Cox's books.
