The following obituary is from The Mountain Eagle newspaper (Letcher
County, KY) dated 12/8/99, pages 1 and 3:
"Long illness fatal to Clifton Caudill"
Clifton Caudill of Carcassonne, a local author and community leader,
died Monday in Lexington after a long illness. He was 86.
Caudill was born Oct. 12, 1913, at Carcassonne, a son of Hendricks D.
and Anna Dixon Caudill. He made his living as a logger. After his
retirement, he was active as chairman of the Carcassonne Community Center,
wrote two books and acted as editor of a third, compiling the minutes of
the Indian Bottom Old Regular Baptist Association.
He and his wife, Ruby Haynes Caudill, were producers of "The Little
Shepherd of Kingdom Come" outdoor drama for several years and were avid
square dancers, hosting a weekly dance at the Carcassonne Community Center.
They appeared square dancing in the motion picture "Coal Miner's Daughter"
and in music videos by Karen Tobin and Lee Sexton.
Clifton Caudill was a long-time community correspondent to "The
Mountain Eagle".
In addition to his wife, Caudill is survived by a sister, Virginia
Dare Back of Letcher; three brothers: H.D. Caudill Jr. of Louisville,
Charles Eugene Caudill of Texas and Jimmy Caudill of Whitesburg; three
sons: Randall Caudill of Doty, and Harold Caudill and Clifton Caudill Jr.,
both of Lexington; two daughters: Shelby Jean Caudill of Dawson Springs and
Katherine Ann Webb of Lexington; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were incomplete at presstime. Letcher Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.

"Funeral held for Caudill"
Funeral services for Clifton Caudill, 86, were held December 9 at
Letcher Funeral Home. Burial was in the Caudill Cemetery at Carcassonne.
A son of the late Hendrix D. Caudill and Annie Dixon Caudill, he died
December 6 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Caudill was the author of two books, "Carcassonne People, Places and
Events" and "Eastern Kentucky Mountain Memories," and was a longtime
correspondent to "The Mountain Eagle".
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Haynes Caudill; three sons, Harold B.
Caudill and Clifton Caudill Jr., both of Lexington; and Randall Caudill,
Jeremiah; two daughters, Shelby Jean Caudill, Dawson Springs, and Katherine
Anne Webb, Wilmore; three brothers, H.D. Caudill Jr., Louisville; James D.
Caudill, Whitesburg; and Charles Eugene Caudill, Humble, Tex.; a sister,
Virginia Dare Back, Letcher; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
