Jeremiah Cordell was born in NC in 1775 and married Elizabeth Riggins. He
resided in the area near Tazewell VA and we know little else. His father's
name is not known although we can demonstrate he has a COMMON ANCESTOR with
the Caudill's.
Absalom Caudle was born 07 Oct 1757 in Halifax Co. VA. He fought in the
Revolutionary War mustering in Salisbury NC. He resided in Anson County NC.
He is thought to be (no proof) the son of Benjamin Caudle, also a Rev. War
vet, born in 1725. You will hear Benjamin Caudle referred to as 'Benjamin
of Sussex' sometimes.
Jeremiah Caudle 1779 was my fourth great grandfather. He died in 1829 and
resided in Wilkes County NC. His father isn't proven, but is thought to be
William Caudill born about 1765. William will sometimes referred to
'William of Wilkes'.
We don't know who Benjamin's (1757-1835) father was conclusively and it sure
wasn't Stephen. Benjamin too has a COMMON ANCESTOR with the Caudill's based
upon descendant YDNA.
Good luck with your book Wiiliam.
Our Caudill YDNA Project has demonstrated without question that there is an
undeniable genetic relationship between JEREMIAH CAUDILL (b. 1779), BENJAMIN
CAUDELL (b. 1757), ABSALOM CAUDLE (b. 1757) - son of Rev. War BENJAMIN
CAUDLE (b. 1725), JESSE CAUDILL (b. 1795), JEREMIAH CORDELL (b. 1775),
STEPHEN A. CAUDILL (b. 1763), JAMES CAUDILL, Jr. (b. 1753), to summarize but
a few of our findings. The CAUDELL derivation is the Georgia Clan (Banks
County area). Habersham is next to Banks County so Elnathan as son of
Benjamin (1757) would seem to make sense. You'll find the CORDELL spelling
coming from areas of KY and elsewhere. CAUDILL and CAUDLE are common in
western NC. CAUDLE is the oldest spelling I find giving exception to
Stephen CAWDLE of 1731 land record. You can find CAWDLE in old records out
of England as well (Glouchester area).

In a recent posting, you mentioned direct DNA connections to a Absolom
Caudle 1757, a Jeremiah Caudle 1779 and a Jeremiah Caudill 1775.
I am currently authoring a book on the Descendants of Stephen Caudill
1680-1759. I am curious as to the parentage of these men. I do not have
either of them in my files. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Also I was caught unaware of the fact that James Sr had a son named Benjamin
1757-1835. Any info that can be shared would certainly help make this book
complete. Thank you,
William C. Reed
