I've been researching old land deeds in Wilkes County. I consistently run into Thomas
Joines neighbor to David Caudill, Stephen Caudill, Abner Caudill, William Johnson, and
Jesse Alexander. The property is clearly stated as being on the Middle Fork of Roaring
River and near the the Old Mill Path. I'm hoping one of you guys can tell me with some
precision and certainty where this property was. I might be able to click the pieces
together if only I can get one known fixed point to start with. The deed I'm working
with now is from Benjamin Adams to Abner Caudill in 1821. I'm willing to guess that
the Thomas Joines mentioned is Thomas Joines Sr. b. abt. 1750 as opposed to Thomas Joines,
Jr. b. Jan. 15, 1802. Benjamin Adams was already in Kentucky at the time as it states so
in the deed. The deed is witnessed by Spencer Adams and David Caudill. Knowing that the
Caudill's and Joines lived in the Greenstreet Mountain, Absher Road area, up by the
Caudill Joines Cemetery, I'm willing!
to further speculate that this land is nearby.
Any takers??
