Stephen Caudill (1680-1759)
James Caudil, Sr (1718-1800) and Mary Yarbrough, (1730-1752)
Stephen was born 1763, Lunenburg co., VA. Served in Rev. War 9 months for Wilkes Co., NC,
with brother James, at battle of Kings Mt in SC, also in battle near Spartanburg, SC. In
Pension applications James Jr. and Stephen both gave Birthplace as Lunenburg Co., VA.
James born in 1753 Stephen 1763.
Stephen moved to NC from Va in 1780 and accumulated a great deal of Land. He brought part
of his family to Floyd co., KY in 1810. He was one of the founders of Indian Bottom
Baptist church in 1810 (Letcher Co., KY)
Stephen married Jane DeHart 03 Apr 1784, Wilkes Co., NC. (NC marriage Bonds 1741-1868)
Thomas Caudill was a witness.

James bought 140 acres from Benjamin Morgan for 50 pounds (Wilkes Co NC Deed Book A-1 page
452). This land was on Sandy Creek, near the Fork of Brush Creek on the middle fork of
Roaring River. The Roaring River splits into 3 streams in the northern part of Wilkes
Co., NC. This split is south of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This is the first place Thomas appears in public records. 1790 census of the Pendleton
District of S C lists him and another couple of about the same age in the household. This
couple wars probably his brother Matthew and his wife Sarah.

Stephen moved to the mouth of Sandlick Creek near Whitesburg about 1800 or a year later.
Stephen - Will 1828 Book B page 210, Stephen left his wife Sarah the farm for her life
time, 2 sows, 1 pig, 2 cows, 10 hogs, 6 sheep, the farming tools and household utensils.
Stephen died 12 Aug 1833, near mouth of Dry Fork Cree, 5 miles down river from Whitesburg,
Letcher Co., Ky, while on the way to the grist mill with "a turn of corn"
Letcher County was then Perry County. Burial in the Watty Caudill Cemetery.
daughter: Mary (Polly) Caudill b. 01 Jun 1785, d. 04 Aug 1862, in Missouri, m. Abraham
Adams, and had about 8 children.
Son: David b. 1787 NC, d. after 1850 Wilkes Co., m. Lucinda Walker in 1806, Lucinda b.
Wake Co. 1787, 8 children: Daniel, Matilda, Stephen, Jesiah, Mary, samuel, William and
Sarah. (1st child, Daniel b. 27 Aug 1807, d. 27 Jul 1877, m. 15 Dec 1826 Winifred Shumate,
b. 1809, d. 10 Sep 1894, both buried Alleghany Co., at old home place on Prather Creek,
children: John, Jackson, Lydin, Linda, David, Mahaley, Mark, Calvin, Polly and harden.)
daughter: Fannie b. 1789, m Mr. Adams.
Stephen Caudill(1763-1839) m 2nd 1792, b. 1776, d. Oct 1842 they had 10 children; (John
Adams, b. 1792, Benjamin b. 1799, Elizabeth, b. 1800, Nancy, b. 1806, Esther, b. 1808,
Sarah, b. 1809, Lydia, b. 1816, Jesse, b. 1818, Watson, b. 1822)
