PFAFFTOWN - Viena "Julie" Julian, 109, a resident of Vienna Village in Pfafftown
died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004. She was born Oct. 25, 1895, in Rowan County to Henry and Nancy
Cauble. Mrs. Julian attended school in Rowan County and Lenoir-Rhyne College. Before her
marriage, Mrs. Julian worked as a trained milliner in Taylorsville and Fayetteville. As a
buyer, she traveled to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. In 1919 she married Sidney H.
Julian. They resided in Baden and Newport News, Va., before moving to Winston-Salem in
1924. Her love of home, the care of her family and the creating of beauty in her
surroundings were Julie's joys. Mrs. Julian was the oldest member of Augsburg Lutheran
Church. The congregation will remember our celebration, on the first Sunday of January
2000, of Mrs. Julian's life spanning three centuries. She and Sidney were among its
founding members and devoted themselves to the building of the present West Fifth Street
church. A faithful worker for the needs !
of the church, Mrs. Julian was an honored lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary
and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Mrs. Julian was preceded in death by her
husband and their son, Dale. Surviving are her devoted daughter, Nancy of the home; and a
number of nieces and nephews in North Carolina, Columbia, S.C., and Orlando, Fla. The
funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 10, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek
Chapel, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr.
Ronald Rinn will officiate. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be
made to the building fund at Augsburg Lutheran Church, 845 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC
