I, too, did not realize the Catton name was so extensive. Relative to my former
impression we now look like rabbits.
I am seeking information about John C. (perhaps Charles) Catton.
My aunt, Faustina (Tina) Lovelace (Catton) has attempted to uncover information for
several years to no avail.
John C. Catton emigrated to the US, arriving in San Francisco, CA from Australia. He is
listed in the 1860 census as a Bond Merchant, married to Ann, with children Elizabeth M
(born Australia), son William M. (born Australia), and sons F.R., Charles H., Walter
D.and K. Hugh all born in CA.
I believe Charles H. is my GGrandfather. His son, Frederick (Fred) L. Catton married Ida,
and they had three children (all still living); my father is F. L. (Leland) Catton, living
in Tucson, AZ.
My father was born in Malden, MA, and his family moved to Berkley, CA, when he was not yet
a teenager. Later the family moved to Seattle, WA., where my father graduated from
Franklin High School.
He married Mariel Ethel Bunde, who attended West Seattle High School. They had two sons,
Bruce Edward Catton, b. 7/13/1937, and me, Robert A. Catton, b. 6/30/1940.
I am seeking information about John C. Catton. How did he get to Australia, what did he
do in Australia, and any information about his parents.
I have three children. Valerie Anne Catton, b. 4/13/1971 in Seattle, WA. Val graduated
from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. John A.
(Amies, after his mother's father, Albert John Amies) Catton, b. 5/1/1973. John
graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's degree in Physics, and
received a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Cynthia Ailene (same middle name as her mother's sister Barbara) b. 4/16/1976.
Cynthia graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's degree in Marine
Zoology. She is currently working on her PhD in Biological Oceanography at Scripps
Institute in San Diego, CA.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who can shed some light on John C. Catton and the
families that were formed by his offspring.
Thank you.
Bob Catton
