Hi
So far I have had some excellent response posting msg's on this board and even found
some distant relations in the states. So I'm hoping for the same again!
I am trying to compile a full family tree (not just a pedigree) for my family. I have hit
a brick wall in Aldborough, East Riding in 1504. But from what I can see there seems to be
a branch of the family which will predate this based around Wiberfoss, Kirby Underale,
Bishops Wilton, Fangoss. This area also encompases High and Low Catton.
I have found a document to say that this area was owned by the Percys who entrusted it to
the Kymes who in turn gave it to a family to look after who in turn took their name from
the town. Now I am not sure if this relates to High and Low Catton or more probably I
think it comes from Catton (which is also in Yorkshire but further north). I have also
found reference to the De Cattons which I think came from Norfolk who settled in
Wilberfoss and founded an abbey around the c12.
I would love to hear and compare trees with anyone researching the Catton Family in the
North ideally around York.
Thanks
