Dear Subscribers
As you may be aware there is a virus called I
Love You going around.
As Listowner I would be grateful if you could
abide by the
following.
Please do NOT send virus warnings to the
list. Although the "I Love You"
virus is a real threat, many of these
warnings are hoaxes and sending them
to the list only propagates them further.
There are a number of sites
that have lists of viruses and hoaxes
including <
http://vil.nai.com/villib/alpha.asp >, <
http://www.DataFellows.com/vir-info/ > and <
http://www.drsolomon.com/vircen/ >. Please
check the validity of any
warning before passing it on. If you have a
warning that is verified please
send it to me, the Listowner, rather than
sending to the list. If I receive a warning
about severe virus such as, "I Love You" or
"Melissa" I will send a single message to the
list.
All the Mailing Lists on RootsWeb are
protected from viruses in at least
three ways. The List Server will reject
messages with attachments and
messages that are not Plain Text (e.g. HTML
or RTF). There is also a size
limit that messages have to be smaller than
(the limit is set to be just
smaller than "Happy99" or "Melissa").
RootsWeb actively look for messages
that might contain known viruses or SPAM,
these are then forwarded to the
Listowners for verification.
Details of the VBS/Lovel ("I Love You",
"Lovebug", "Love Letter") virus can
be found at <
http://vil.nai.com/villib/dispVirus.asp?virus
_k=98617 > and <

irus/iloveyou.html >
Please can any further discussion on this
topic be conducted off the list.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Best of Luck with your genealogical research.
