The cattle family is not known to have any links with Spain.
The Cattle family comes in four main flavours
1.A Cattle family that started in Northamptonshire and comes from a saxon village called
CATHALE which changed its spelling to CATTLE in Norman times
2.A Scottish Cattle family from around Inverness that came in the 1600s from a misspelling
of CADDEL clan
3. A Huganeot family that came to England from france and germany in the 1500/1600s and
mainly settles in Somerset and the south of england including London (CASTELL etc).
4. The north of England Cattle family that stated in the Village of CATHALE then in Norman
times was called CATTALL and the families then moved to York in the 100s/1200s before
moving to North Yorkshire as CATTALL/CATTELL. In the early 1700s they mostly lived near
York and became the CATTLE family. The original Village of CATHALE/CATTALL is now called
CATTAL and is some 10 miles west of York near Green Hammerton and Hunsingore.
Each of the families have now sread to other parts of the UK and the world including the
USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc etc.
If anyone need to know which line they should look at in more detail, they shoud post any
confirmed link they have to the 1911/1901 census and I will attempt to assist.
Finally I should point out that there is a CATTLE family today in the HULL area who can be
traced back only to John Cattle in the early 1700s. John is a mystery man whose father is
not known and the link to which cattle family is still being looked at??!!
