For some one who has just joined, you have struck pay dirt, because we have all the
history of the family, including your third great grandfather, who I know so much about
because he was a 17th lancer and rode into the valley of death, but he came out alive. My
3rd great grandmother Caroline was the witness at William and Anne's marriage, and yes
we have all the certificates.
Caroline's is the only baptism we could not find, but we found all the important
information about who her family were. William had two other brothers who were very well
known,. Richard, who became a minister and George Cattermole who was a famous artist, his
works were much loved by queen Victoria, and his works are also in the Tate gallery. He
was a great friend of Charles dickens and did the art work on the old curiosity shop.
I am still finding relations here in New Zealand, and one of our cousin's Bev has
written a book about he family of Caroline, who immigrated to new Zealand. Caroline for
the children's second names would use either Cattermole or Flowerdew. Any way Bev knew
about this famous artist we had in the family, so when she went to England, she went tot
he dickens store, problem is she was looking for the name George brown, that is
Caroline's married name, she did not realize Cattermole was the name she should of
been looking for. One of our cousins in England sent me some lovely George Cattermole
prints, and even one of our 4th great grand father. We have also done all the research on
the flowedew line. My great grandfather Herbert George flowerdew-Brown, he put his names
together, well he spent his adult life in india in the army. We live
here in Orewa, its a coastal town just forty minutes from Auckland city. We go to the
local Methodist church, because my and your cousin Robyn is the minister. We have many
ministers through out our history. Have you read any of the books that talk about your
third great grandfather. Being part of the 17th lancers that went into that famous battle
and came out a live of course became folk status when that famous poem was written, into
the valley of death they rode. Well after that battle and years later they formed a
society, in which only these men could belong, many hundreds more tried to lie their way
in, so they created a document of correct
soldiers, I have two books on them. We have everything on file, and in the computer, over
700 pages. If you can help us fill in more of that record that would be great. I also have
a photo of William George. Did you know his wife and sister had the same names. His sister
was deaf and dumb, and lived with Caroline until she died of heart failure at just 50,
that is when William and his wife started to look after her. I think for you, it would be
better if you got in touch with us, at our own email. its rgbg84(a)xtra.co.nz.
hope to hear from you rebecca
