Dear Gerrie,
You aren't alone -- I'm trying to help my daughter-in-law find her
Cattermole ancestors.
The only Cattermole names I have for her so far are George Cattermole,
August 08, 1800 - July 24, 1868 in England (probably the London area) and
his daughter, Georgina Clarissa Caroline Cattermole b. ca 1840-50 (also
England). Georgina married C. A. Sumner (b. ca 1850 in England). This
family is closely related to Charles Sumner "Lord Winton" who was a Bishop
of Winchester. Also John Bird Sumner. "C.A." Sumner immigrated to the U.S.
prior to 1870. He apparently went directly to California.
According to family history, Charles Richard Sumner (aka C.R.) was born in
England and spent some of his early school years there. His father (C. A.
Sumner) insisted that his wife, (Charles Richard's mother) go to England to
give birth to young Charles although C.A. remained in the U.S.
I do not have (but would like to have) other Cattermoles -- I have found
mentions of "Cattermole" by searching some English websites and believe
there is also a Scottish connection but this research is in early days yet.
It appears that at some point in history, the Cattermole family were
mentioned in official documents -- don't know if they had royal connections
or not.
I think my daughter-in-law has other information in that proverbial "box
somewhere" and if you think this line might connect with yours, let me know
and will gladly share any information.

Hi Gina,
I just checked the archives thinking I must have missed
a few postings but there seems to be just you and I on
the list still. Don't know where all the CATTS ar hiding.
Have you had a chance to check the 1901 census yet?
On the 1881 my Mary is born at Preston Lancs but
on the 1901 it says she was born at Peckham London.
I had a birth cert. for her born Preston and it said
her father was Henry. I then got her 2nd marriage c.
and her father was John. Now I will check the London
birth for her & hope for a father John there.
At least my family is getting closer to yours in London.
Have you had any luck for Caroline yet?
Lets hope a few more seekers come on this list.
Take care, Gerrie
