Hello, cousin! Yes, I have Sayner/Catt cousins -- and in fact, one third cousin has been
researching the Sayner line for about as long as I have been researching the Catt line.
In fact, my Great-great-grandfather Josiah Franklin "Frank" Catt is probably the
reason your ancestor changed his name from "Catt" to "Sayner" --
G-Gfather Frank was a bit colorful, to say the least!
I live near Seattle, WA and even when I was a child (in the 1950s) I had heard the family
joke "Sayners are saner than Catts". This apparently referred to the fact that
the Catts who became Sayners thought at least some of the Catts (who remained Catts --
like GGGrandfather Frank) were less than sane!
And, in fact, their father died in the insane asylum at Dane, Wisconsin...alas...
My third cousin Gordy Sayner, married to Madge, descends from the Sayner who changed his
name -- so you must be closer cousins to him than to me. Do you know them? I'll send
your message to Madge and Gordy, as it will be of interest, I'm sure.
Madge is the expert on the descendents who became Sayners, and even has information on why
they changed their name to "Sayner" when they decided to change it from
"Catt"! It's a great story, but I'll let her tell it...
