Hi, I was interested to read your message as my husband (we live in New
Zealand) is a descendant of the Catt family in Sussex and his grandmother
who died two years ago at 103 kept in touch with cousins from there. One
cousin we met who had researched the family and gave us a family tree told
us that the Catt family were originally Huguenots who came from France
(because of persecution) and had originated from Germany before that, also
that there had been a name change. I know family stories can often be out
but it has made me curious.. How far back can the name be traced in England?
Before the Huguenots fleeing France? I'm not saying it's true just
wondering if it can be proven either way. Would love to hear of anymore
information you may have on this. Regards, Marianne Coop

If you are tracing the Catt family from England, please note that
Catt is
a
very old English name in its own right which originates from Kent &
Sussex,
and not from the Katz in Germany.

The Catt Family book I am writing about is about the Catt Family in The
United States. Before that they were German, Katz. Whether the book
covers
any English links, it is possible, but I don't recall and didn't photocopy
the whole thing. There were persecuted Germans who went to England. So,
it
is possible.

Hi All: My name is Catt, and my grandparents were English, but came to
Canada about 1911.
But we don't know any Catts overseas, and would very much like to contact
some.
Sidney Herbert Catt was my grandfather, born in1877 in Southwark. He
married
my grandmother in 1905 in Medway Kent.
Next in line was Henry Catt, born 1842 Farnborough, married to Susan
Meekcoms in 1866.
Prior to that, his father was William Catt, born 1809 in Heathfield.
Before that, was John Catt, born 1786 Warbleton, Sussex.
I am interested in anything pertaining to the Catt line.
This book about Catts. Is it only available in GB?
Lianne Hunter (nee Catt)
