Hello Pat,
I will gladly let you have all the information I have on my Catons, although
it is not a great deal and mostly comes from St Winifrid's RC Church records
Neston, Wirral, which I looked at when I visited Chester. These records
only start in 1844, so the earliest mention of my Richard Caton is the
baptisms of his children.

According to St Winifride's records Richard Caton was married to Ann Maher.
When Richard died in 1867 he was buried at St Winifrides. His wife Ann Caton
remarried in 1871, this time the marriage was registered, her name on the
marriage certificate was spelt Keyton. I obtained a copy and to my surprise
her fathers name was given as John Ryan, land agent. So I presume she was
illigitimate or married before her marriage to Richard Caton. It is all
very confusing. I found her in 1881 living in Great Sutton, Cheshire and
she is from Ireland, no county given. She was born in about 1830.
Richard Caton born 1863 married a Mary Ann Costello, also with Irish
connections, in 1885. Their son Francis was my husband's grandfather. I
have not as yet done much about searching for all the various Irish
descendents, as I have had plenty to research so far in England from his
fathers line and also my own. At some stage I would like to pursue the
Irish connections. I hope we can help each other,
June Clough
